About the role
The Universal Banker plays a key role in providing retail banking services and products to bank customers. In addition to performing a variety of tasks associated with transacting customer requests and verifying the completeness of retail banking transactions, the Universal Banker develops new business opportunities with current and potential customers.
Responsibilities
- Relationship and Business Development (40%)
- Process new account transactions, including compiling and preparing new account paperwork and applications.
- Identify the unmet needs of current and potential customers and offer appropriate products and services.
- Promote and provide information to customers on new and enhanced products and services.
- Cross-sell products and services to current and potential customers.
- Open, maintain, and close all deposit account types.
- Participate in community events to increase bank visibility and develop business opportunities.
- Customer Service (30%)
- Assist customer inquiries and requests regarding current accounts.
- Address questions or concerns about accounts, products, services, or transactions.
- Provide support for online banking, mobile banking, remote deposit capture, safe deposit box access, ATM, and debit card requests.
- Perform traditional teller functions, including processing deposits, withdrawals, loan payments, and bonds.
- Answer customer inquiries about interest rates, service charges, and account histories while complying with disclosure requirements and privacy policies.
- Handle incoming calls, assist callers with questions, and route them appropriately.
- Greet and direct incoming bank visitors.
- Branch Operations/Ownership (20%)
- Record all transactions promptly, accurately, and in compliance with bank procedures.
- Balance and replenish cash in ATMs.
- Order cash weekly and balance drawer daily; investigate and resolve out-of-balance conditions.
- Sell prepaid travel and gift cards; maintain logs and inventory.
- Buy and sell currency from the vault, ensuring teller drawer cash limits are not exceeded.
- Maintain currency logs, target cash levels, and balance the vault daily.
- Sort and distribute work from other offices; process mail and night depository transactions.
- Operate bank equipment such as computers, telephones, and copiers.
- Ensure compliance with federal banking regulations, including Bank Secrecy Act, OFAC, Community Reinvestment Act, ADA, Right to Financial Privacy Act, Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act, and Federal Reserve regulations.
- Ensure customers understand rates and FDIC insurance for depository accounts.
- Additional Responsibilities (10%)
- Work overtime as needed.
- Provide assistance to other departments as required.
- Perform other assigned duties.
Requirements
- Education: High School Diploma or equivalent (required); post-secondary certificate or degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business (preferred).
- Experience: 1–2 years in banking, insurance, or a related field (required); previous office experience (preferred).
- Licenses and Certifications: Notary (preferred).
