About the role
The Programmer/Research Analyst supports research initiatives using large-scale healthcare data sources, including Medicare, Medicaid, SEER, NHANES, Optum, and electronic medical records. This role contributes to federally funded projects supported by the National Cancer Institute and the National Library of Medicine, focusing on cancer prevention, treatment, and survivorship.
Responsibilities
- Build and maintain analytic datasets and data pipelines
- Design, implement, and document reproducible, scalable workflows for assembling large-scale healthcare datasets used in real-world evidence generation and oncology research
- Develop statistical and computational code for analyses and modeling
- Write efficient, well-structured code to support effectiveness, cost-effectiveness, and health services research, including model implementation and validation
- Integrate heterogeneous data sources (claims, EMR, registry, survey data), conduct rigorous data quality checks, and prepare analysis-ready datasets for complex study designs
- Conduct descriptive and exploratory analyses
- Generate summary statistics, visualizations, and preliminary findings to guide study design and analytic decisions
- Conduct literature reviews and support research synthesis
Requirements
- A bachelor's degree and one year professional experience involving the collection, analysis, interpretation and presentation of quantified data
- A master's degree in statistics may be substituted for the required work experience
- A master’s degree (minimum) in health informatics, data science, health services research, biostatistics, epidemiology, or a related quantitative field
- Mis- to advanced-level proficiency in programming with SAS, SQL, Python, R, or Stata, with demonstrated experience building, optimizing, and managing large analytic datasets and reproducible pipelines
- Documented experience working with administrative claims data or other large-scale healthcare datasets, including data linkage, longitudinal cohort construction, and advanced data quality assessment
- Strong oral and written communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a diverse research team

$52,100.00 - $70,300.00 - $88,600.000 per year
