Unity Prep - Elementary Scholar Support Specialist (2026-2027 School Year)
About the role
The Scholar Support Specialist plays a critical role in helping scholars develop foundational skills within a joyful, structured, and supportive school environment. This role is rooted in proactive relationship-building, restorative practices, family partnership, and a belief that every child can meet high expectations when provided with consistent support and care.
Responsibilities
- Build strong relationships with scholars to help them navigate behavioral expectations, social-emotional challenges, peer conflict, and daily school routines.
- Support the implementation of joyful and developmentally appropriate school culture systems that keep scholars engaged, safe, and ready to learn.
- Provide individualized and small-group behavioral and social-emotional interventions for scholars requiring additional support.
- Collaborate closely with teachers and school leaders to reinforce consistent behavior expectations and intervention strategies across classrooms and settings.
- Implement proactive behavior supports, restorative practices, social-emotional learning strategies, and positive reinforcement systems.
- Maintain accurate documentation related to behavior supports, interventions, family communication, and action plans.
- Partner with families to build trust, communicate scholar progress, and collaborate on support strategies that promote student success.
- Facilitate Scholar Support Team meetings and contribute to action planning for scholars requiring additional behavioral or emotional support.
- Create an inclusive school environment by participating in training, reflection, and dialogue related to race, identity, diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Assume personal responsibility for the academic, behavioral, and emotional growth of all scholars.
Requirements
A graduate of a Bachelor’s degree program (required), with prior experience working with elementary-aged students in schools, youth programs, counseling, mentoring, or related settings (preferred).
Qualifications
An educator and youth advocate with an unwavering commitment to college success and authentic civic engagement for all scholars.
Skills
A relationship-builder who enjoys working with elementary-aged scholars and understands the importance of helping young children develop emotional regulation, self-advocacy, conflict resolution, and positive school habits.
