About the Role

The University of Pittsburgh's Office of Engagement and Community Affairs (ECA) seeks a United Way Campaign and Employee Volunteer Program Manager to lead the university's annual United Way campaign and to build and steward Pitt's employee volunteer program. Consistent with ECA's role as the university's home for relationship-focused work, this position connects faculty, staff, and departments with meaningful ways to contribute to the region — matching the interests and capacity of the Pitt community with the priorities of our community partners. The Program Manager serves as a connector between the university and United Way staff and priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as functional lead for the annual United Way campaign, coordinating fundraising, communications, events, and partnerships in support of the university's giving goals.
  • Serve as the primary contact for faculty, staff, and departments seeking to identify and participate in employee volunteer opportunities, helping match interests and skills to community needs.
  • Serve as the primary contact for community partners engaging Pitt employees in volunteer activities, ensuring these opportunities are reciprocal, well-designed, and grounded in genuine partnership.
  • Update and deploy training and orientation resources on employee volunteerism for departments and individuals participating in volunteer activities.
  • Support volunteer management for key programs — including Be A Good Neighbor Block Parties, Day of Caring, PEER Read Alouds, and Christmas Day at Pitt — coordinating logistics, recruitment, and preparation in advance of each event.
  • Track participation and outcomes across campaign and volunteer activities, contributing to ECA's broader work of understanding and demonstrating the university's community engagement.
  • Plan and execute comprehensive community engagement plans and maintain a community presence.
  • Collaborate to develop engagement workflow integration strategies and a calendar of community events.
  • Plan logistics, provide mentoring to staff, and track the impact of efforts.
  • Develop budgets, engage in fundraising, and perform associated financial duties.
  • Create informational and marketing materials and maintain databases.

  • Experience in volunteer coordination, campaign management, community engagement, or a related field.
  • Ability to manage multiple events and partners simultaneously.
  • Genuine commitment to the well-being of the Pittsburgh region.
  • Experience working across a large, complex organization and comfort partnering with both internal departments and external community organizations are strongly preferred.
  • Computer literacy is required.

Essential Functions

  • Strong communication skills and ability to interact with University faculty, researchers, staff, and non-University personnel in diverse environments.
