Responsibilities
- Welcome and explain hospital and unit policies and procedures.
- Address and escalate patient problems and concerns for service recovery.
- Aid the physician and nurse with various treatments and patient care procedures.
- Report pertinent information to the supervisor and give a general report on patients at the end of each shift.
- Record vital signs and document accurately and promptly.
- Participate in in-service education and contribute to patient and family teaching.
- Maintain a clean environment in patient rooms and work area.
- Notify RN of changes in patient condition and document appropriately.
- Perform and assist with personal care activities like baths, showers, skin and hair care, and oral hygiene.
- Perform and assist with specific patient care activities as directed by the Registered Nurse or other designated individuals.
- Complete other tasks or special assignments as necessary to maintain proper operations and patient care.
Qualifications
- High School diploma, general equivalency diploma (GED), or GED equivalent programs.
- Proficiency with medical vocabulary and general understanding of hospital policy & procedures.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite platforms.
- Completion of a Secretarial course and/or a Medical terminology course preferred.
- Previous experience as a Nursing Unit Secretary in a hospital setting preferred.
