About the Role

This position assists with admit, discharge, and transfer functions of the assigned unit. It provides various support functions to the department, including processing reservations, managing phones, and following up on patient, family, and staff requests in a timely manner.

Schedule

12-hour shifts per week: 6:45 AM – 7:15 PM, including rotating weekends.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent (required)
  • Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association within 90 days of hire at Community Hospitals, unless designated on Regulatory Grid
  • Computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and information retrieval
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills with the ability to present information clearly and professionally
  • Proficiency with Windows-style applications, various software packages specific to the role, and keyboard
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Thorough understanding of current medical terminology
  • Self-directed with the ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment in difficult situations
  • Strong organizational, planning, and time management skills

Preferred: Experience in the healthcare industry.

Responsibilities

  • Provides clerical support for the department
  • Responds to requests from patients, family, and staff, referring to appropriate personnel as needed
  • Serves as Patient Experience Ambassador for the unit
  • Assesses EPIC chart reports to ensure proper unit charges
  • Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including respect for privacy, method of introduction, adapting explanations of services or procedures, requesting permissions, and communication style
  • Remains knowledgeable on current federal, state, and local laws, accreditation standards, or regulatory agency requirements applicable to the assigned area and ensures compliance
  • Other related duties as required

Physical and Environmental Demands

  • Medium Work – Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects
  • Normal routine involves no exposure to blood, body fluid, or tissue, but exposure or potential for exposure may occur
  • Works with patients who have known or suspected communicable diseases and may enter isolation rooms
  • Occupational risk for exposure to all communicable diseases
  • Potential occupational risk for exposure to hazardous medications or hazardous waste through receipt, transport, storage, preparation, dispensing, administration, cleaning, and/or disposal of contaminated waste
