Unit Secretary - Maternal Child Services - Full Time Days

Responsibilities

Assists: Performs and aids the physician and nurse with a variety of treatments and patient care procedures.

Communication: Reports pertinent information to the immediate supervisor and gives a general report on all patients at the end of each shift. Reports vital signs and records accurately and within a timely manner.

Documentation: Observes, reports and records patient care, symptoms, treatments and reactions following approved policies and procedures of the institution.

In-service: Assists and participates in in-service education.

Patient Area Maintenance: Maintains a clean environment in patient rooms and work area.

Patient Observation: Notifies RN of changes in patient condition in a timely manner and documents appropriately.

Personal Care: Performs and/or assists patients with personal care activities, such as baths, showers, skin and hair care, and oral hygiene.

Teaching: Contributes to patient and family teaching while performing procedures as instructed.

Other Duties: Performs other tasks or special assignments as necessary to maintain proper operations and patient care.

Requirements

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • A high school diploma, general equivalency diploma (GED), and/or GED equivalent programs.
  • Proficiency with medical vocabulary and general understanding of hospital policy & procedures.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient computer skills that include but are not limited to Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite platforms.

Education, Knowledge, Skills And Abilities Preferred:

  • Completion of a Secretarial course and/or a Medical terminology course.
  • Previous experience as a Nursing Unit Secretary in a hospital setting.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma, general equivalency diploma (GED), and/or GED equivalent programs.
  • Proficiency with medical vocabulary and general understanding of hospital policy & procedures.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient computer skills that include but are not limited to Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite platforms.
  • Completion of a Secretarial course and/or a Medical terminology course.
  • Previous experience as a Nursing Unit Secretary in a hospital setting.
