Qualifications
- Education: High School diploma or equivalent is required.
- Current certification with the Texas Department of Nurse Aid Registry preferred.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association upon hire or transfer to department.
- Complete the following competencies within 3 months of hire or transfer from another department:
- Routine secretarial duties
- Communication skills
- Time management skills
- Maintains office supply par levels
- Basic computer skills
- Entering patient charges
- Kronos TimeCare duties
- Office equipment
- Patient transfers
- Patient transport
- Aseptic technique
- Laboratory specimen / order entry
- Unit safety
- Body substance isolation
- Role in Code Blue
- Proper surgical attire
- Surgical shave preps
- Supply processing
- Receive and relay communications among members of the health care team
- Cookbook activities of the health care team and visitors on the unit
- Work cooperatively and constructively as a member of the surgical team
- Practice courteous interpersonal skills and utilize the established channels of communication
- Consistently incorporate safety practices into all work activities including appropriate wearing of personal protective equipment
- Maintain confidentiality and respect for patients’ rights and privacy at all times
