Responsibilities

  • Monitors safety and Process Safety programs to reduce risks of incidents to all personnel.
  • Ensures compliance with all environmental regulations applicable to the unit, including reasonable inquiry and certification of reports to federal and state agencies.
  • Develops and executes the unit variable cost budget and departmental fixed cost budget.
  • Creates monthly budget reforecast and variance analysis reports to ensure favorable variance wherever possible.
  • Develops objectives and targets for the unit and implements plans to accomplish them.
  • Directs and coordinates the efforts of the operations leadership team.
  • Runs the plant to meet production requirements while maintaining plant stream factor, without compromising employee safety, environmental, or quality requirements.
  • Monitors daily plant operating data and process stream analyses to ensure product quality and efficient operation, identifying maintenance needs or improvement opportunities.
  • Reviews engineering designs and operating recommendations to ensure improvements are practical, safe, necessary, and beneficial to plant operation.
  • Interacts with department heads of support departments, including Safety, Environmental, Engineering, QC Laboratory, Finance, Purchasing, and Maintenance.
  • Provides direction to engineering and technology groups to improve unit performance and install cost-effective, timely upgrades.
  • Works with Business Areas to establish Production Plans and forecasts.
  • Collaborates with Human Resources to respond to grievances from union personnel and develop consistent work practice policies.
  • Works with customers to resolve problems associated with product quality and services.
  • Oversees established program management systems in the Operations Department.
  • Ensures programs, procedures, and activities comply with corporate governance and legal compliance requirements.

Requirements

  • University Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Business, or related fields.
  • 5+ years of industrial experience in Chemical Process.
  • Previous management training or experience, particularly in supervision or interpersonal skills management.

Skills

  • Capability to handle a large work volume and develop a broad knowledge base to operate effectively in all areas of responsibility.
  • Knowledge of management systems, Safety, Health, and Environment (SHE) Processes and Procedures, and Process Safety Management (PSM).
  • Effective oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Management style must include values-driven leadership, cultural sensitivity, business acumen, team focus, networking, relationship-building, and a balance of conceptual and practical approaches.
  • Some travel may be required.
