About the role
The Unit Manager plays a crucial role in supporting the Residential Dining program at Harvard University Dining Services (HUDS). This position oversees various operations and ensures that all aspects of the business are managed efficiently, fostering a welcoming and inclusive dining environment.
Responsibilities
Operational Management: Lead a team of service staff, ensuring all operational aspects of the residential dining unit are managed effectively, adhering to all food, occupational safety rules, and customer service expectations.
Fiscal Management: Ensure financial viability of the assigned unit by developing and managing the annual operational budget, including food and labor cost goals, and submitting all invoices and PCard documentation in a timely and accurate manner.
Employee and Labor Management: Provide leadership and direction to a diverse team of service staff, develop positive relationships with both front-line employees and union shop stewards, and conduct annual performance evaluations.
Event Planning: Plan and execute simple to complex catered indoor and outdoor events, ensuring kitchen equipment is operational and submitting necessary repair requests.
Sustainability: Implement and manage sustainability goals and programs within the unit.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience required.
Minimum of 5 years’ relevant work experience.
Previous experience managing a University dining services operation.
Experience managing in a unionized environment.
Knowledge of Kronos timekeeping software or similar system.
Knowledge of FoodPro Menu Management system.
Demonstrated business acumen, including strong financial and human resources management skills.
Proven ability to deliver exceptional customer service.
Qualifications
Associates or Bachelors Degree in Hospitality Management or related field.
