About the role
The Unit Coordinator/Secretary at South Shore Health's Cardiac Pratt 5 department is responsible for facilitating efficient functioning of the nursing unit through various duties including communication, requisitioning, and management of supplies and equipment.
Responsibilities
- Demonstrates professional courtesy in all interactions and acts as a resource person to nursing staff, other clinicians, and support services.
- Interacts with patients and families in a compassionate and humanistic manner, demonstrating empathy, sensitivity, and patience.
- Utilizes technological solutions to work processes and practices, accesses Lotus Notes for email and other resources, and orders necessary supplies from stores/departments.
- Ensures discharge disposition is entered accurately and in a timely manner, and books appointments through central scheduling.
- Completes daily chart audits, completes shift to shift reports, and conducts shift rounds ensuring precaution rooms match med track and door tags are correct.
- Orders supplies from Stores/other departments as needed or requested, collaborates with Operations Supervisor to maintain/change par levels, and orders from outside vendors.
- Fosters a "Culture of Safety" by understanding individual roles/responsibilities in event of hospital codes/emergency preparedness, ensuring the unit environment meets regulatory requirements, and adhering to CDC hand hygiene guidelines.
- Communicates appropriately and effectively utilizing the chain of command, brings potential compliance issues to a manager, supervisor, director, or VP, and complies with mandatory education requirements of the compliance, privacy, and security programs.
- Welcomes the presence and participation of family members at all times according to patient preferences, regardless of rounds, change of shift, or other events on the unit.
- Considers the individual needs of each person with whom they interact, possesses age and cultural knowledge and awareness, and effectively utilizes resources to provide care/services such as interpreter services and online sources.
Requirements
- Preferred High School Diploma/GED.
- Basic computer knowledge is preferred.
- Ability to communicate effectively and document information accurately.
- Ability to deal efficiently and effectively with a wide variety of individuals.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of basic medical terminology is preferred.
