Unit Coordinator Adolescents

About the Role

This position will float as needed to other units based on needs, including dual diagnosis, crisis stabilization, and acute inpatient adult programs at Three Rivers Behavioral Health, a 136-bed treatment facility specializing in behavioral health and substance abuse services for adolescents and adults. The facility offers a full continuum of care through inpatient, partial hospitalization, and intensive outpatient programs. Located between I-20 (Exit 61) and I-26 (Exit 110) in West Columbia, SC, Three Rivers fosters a supportive, family-like atmosphere with over 300 employees.

Responsibilities

• Utilize patient activity schedule, unit rules, and group structure to maintain consistency in the milieu.
• Provide clerical and reception duties in support of the department at the nurses' station and ensure the patient program schedule is carried out as planned.
• Assist with the admission of new patients by gathering routine information for nursing assessment, searching patients and belongings for contraband, and documenting belongings and other appropriate information.
• Orient patients and their families to the facility, policies, and procedures.
• Assist with leading daily unit-based groups.
• Perform duties of a Mental Health Technician (MHT) as necessary.

Requirements

• High School Diploma (Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology or related field strongly preferred).
• Six months of experience as an MHT at Three Rivers Behavioral Health preferred for internal candidates.
• One year of behavioral health experience and experience in a unit clerk role required for external candidates.

Key Physical Requirements

• Ability to continuously walk and stand for the duration of the shift.
• Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, pull, and lift objects from lower to higher positions or horizontally.
• Exertion of up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently.
• Manual dexterity and physical agility to perform de-escalation procedures.
• Ability to calmly and therapeutically handle aggressive, hostile, and irrational behavior of patients.
• Ability to respond immediately to crisis situations involving patients and/or family members.
• Ability to work and concentrate amidst distractions such as noise, conversation, and foot traffic.
