Unit Clerk Neuro/Ortho/Peds

About the Role

As a Unit Clerk/Care Aide at UP Health System - Marquette, you'll contribute to our mission of making communities healthier by performing administrative and clerical duties in support of an assigned area. This full-time, days shift position operates from 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM.

Responsibilities

• Performs administrative/clerical duties in support of an assigned area.
• Greets patients and visitors; answers, screens, and routes telephone calls.
• Calls codes, pages, and overhead announcements as requested.
• Enters nursing requests subject to the approval of a licensed nurse and asks for clarification when necessary.
• Assists with processing patient admissions, transfers, and discharges.
• Assembles and maintains patient records and charts.
• Performs needed clerical tasks, including copying, filing, and ordering/stocking supplies.
• Assists RNs and physicians with other patient activities as needed.
• Assists with orientation and training of personnel and students.
• Participates and attends meetings as required and/or assigned.
• Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent (preferred). Years of relevant experience may be substituted for required education.
• 6 months of experience as a unit clerk or in a similar role.
• Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
• Basic Life Support Health Care Provider (BLS-HCP) certification.
• 1 year in healthcare (preferred).
