Responsibilities

  • Patient care responsibilities
  • Acts as receptionist on the unit
  • Schedules tests promptly
  • Returns telephone calls quickly
  • Takes and forwards messages accurately
  • Answers routine questions from patients and visitors
  • Answers/screens telephone calls professionally
  • Assembles patient charts
  • Checks that all required forms are addressographed
  • Enters TPR data onto graph in patient's chart
  • Labels specimens and transports as necessary
  • Transcribes lab work from doctor's order sheet onto laboratory test requisition forms
  • Enters admission, transfers and expirations in logbook and on appropriate interdepartmental communication forms
  • Maintains accurate identification of all patients
  • Notifies appropriate personnel of new admissions/transfers/expirations
  • Ensures patient property is safeguarded
  • Removes Pharmacy copy of physician orders from the chart
  • Prepares and maintains adequate supply of forms for patients' records
  • Prepares requisitions for supplies
  • Sorts and distributes mail on the unit
  • Prepares unit payroll
  • Communicates changes to the Payroll Department
  • Communicates effectively with oncoming Ward Clerk
  • Maintains statistical data as directed
  • Utilizes the hospital computer system as it pertains to job responsibilities
  • Participates on unit committees and in CQI activities
  • Assists other personnel as necessary
  • Runs errands in emergencies and/or as necessary
  • Maintains established departmental policies and procedures
  • Adheres to the Medical Center’s Code of Conduct
  • Understands and adheres to the Medical Center’s Mission, Vision, and Values Statements

Qualifications

  • BLS certification required
  • Good, comfortable working knowledge of the computer
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Speaks, reads and writes English to the extent required by the position
  • High school graduation or equivalent required
