About the role
Crystal Run Healthcare, part of Optum, is seeking a Unit Clerk to join their team in Monroe, NY. This role is responsible for supporting the vision and mission of the organization, delivering excellent customer service, and adhering to Lean processes.
Responsibilities
- Maintains professional appearance and adheres to dress code and identification badge
- Demonstrates professionalism in behavior and courtesy towards patients and staff
- Maintains confidentiality and complies with HIPAA regulations
- Takes initiative to stay informed of new/revised policies and procedures, standards of care, and incorporates these into practice
- Attends and participates in mandatory staff meetings or reads minutes
- Completes annual mandatory education
- Attends/participates in training/review classes and projects as assigned
- Escalates difficult situations and people to management personnel with good judgment
- Ensures a positive work attitude, fosters teamwork, and accepts management decisions
- Supports peer-to-peer training initiative for new Patient Services employees
- Assists co-workers and completes assignments independently
- Completes miscellaneous work assigned by leadership or Physician accurately and in a timely manner
- Opens and closes office as needed, ensuring all equipment and supplies are operational and accounted for
- Communicates with clinical staff to keep patients informed of appointment status
- Verifies insurance eligibility and coverage by phone, independent website, RTS, Phreesia, or at time of service
- Verifies patient demographic and insurance information at time of visit, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and up-to-date in the patient's chart
- Scans current insurance card and photo identification into system
- Provides After Visit Summary in compliance with ACO guidelines
- Schedules/Cancels/Reschedules patient appointments as ordered by the physician, adhering to scheduling policies and procedures
- Notifies management or other departments appropriately using Clerical Templates for various issues/requests/reasons
- Maintains supply inventories and equipment necessary for the effective performance of the job, communicating supply needs to the office supervisor in a timely manner
- Maintains a neat, organized, orderly environment in the reception and waiting room areas
- Communicates with patients, caregivers, and other healthcare professionals regarding patient care
- Documents and reports the information and data collected in a retrievable, understandable, and readable format
- Prints and faxes documents as required
- Maintains adequate office supplies
- Uses effective professional communication skills and tools to acquire and disseminate relevant information to patients, caregivers, and health care providers across the continuum of care
- Performs other tasks as required for the effective and efficient functioning of the Practice when directed to do so by Supervisory and Managerial personnel
Qualifications
- High School Diploma/GED
- 1+ years of computer proficiency experience (multi-tasking through multiple applications including Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word)
- 1+ years of customer service or healthcare related experience
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with an electronic health record
- 1+ years of experience working in medical office positions performing duties such as scheduling appointments, checking patients in/out, insurance verification, collecting co-pays, and maintaining medical records
- 1+ years of experience working with authorizations
