Summary
The Unit Clerk performs a variety of clerical duties, which provide support to nursing staff, physicians, and other members of the patient care units.Responsibilities
- Maintains an effective and efficient flow of information by responding to customer requests and through coordination of interdepartmental communications.
- Answers patient call system promptly, decides priority for responses, and immediately notifies appropriate personnel.
- Answers telephones, routing calls and conveying messages, and places calls appropriately within the scope of their authority.
- Works directly with the Nurse Manager/designee in coordinating patient flow, communications, maintenance of records.
- Assists with traffic control and necessary communication. Adheres to policies related to patient confidentiality and information.
- Facilitates patient admission, transfers and discharges through Nursing Patient Access and Housekeeping departments, including setting up and breaking down patient charts, and completing chart abstracts.
- Enters physicians' orders into the computer system. Enters orders accurately (desired Admissions).
- Ensures census reports are updated throughout work shift.
Experience
- Less than one year experience; basic employment skills; computer skills; standard office equipment skills
Education
- High School / GED
