Unit Clerical Assistant - Pulmonary
About the Role
We’re searching for a Unit Clerical Assistant who thrives in a fast-paced setting. In this position, you will perform receptionist and clerical duties for the assigned unit, representing the hospital with effective customer service. You will ensure hospital visitation guidelines are followed, maintain the waiting area, and assist patient families in obtaining needed information.
Schedule
Full-time (40 hours/week), Monday–Friday. The selected candidate will alternate schedules with the current Unit Clerical Assistant:
- One week: Monday (6:45am–11:15pm), Wednesday (6:45am–3:15pm), Thursday (6:45am–11:15pm)
- Next week: Tuesday (6:45am–11:15pm), Wednesday (2:45pm–11:15pm), Friday (6:45am–11:15pm)
Responsibilities
- Demonstrate effective communication and customer service.
- Serve as a receptionist to all visitors, providing appropriate information, taking and delivering family messages, and locating families at the request of health team members.
- Positively interact with healthcare team members to meet patient and family needs.
- Promptly and courteously answer patient calls and notify the appropriate clinician of patient needs.
- Greet all visitors courteously with respect to social, cultural, and ethnic needs.
- Act as a resource to families/visitors by providing information about hospital services and city information (as appropriate).
- Work with housekeeping and assigned volunteers to maintain visitors’ areas continuously.
- Ensure proper utilization of the waiting area/rest area, explaining and enforcing hospital visitation guidelines.
- Keep accurate records in the patient visitation log to monitor visitors in the area.
- Report any problems quickly to the appropriate supervisor or security.
- Provide proactive customer service to employees and visitors.
- Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor at all times.
- Perform clerical duties, including coordinating area communication systems/procedures.
- Greet all persons entering and exiting the unit and provide identification stickers to visitors.
- Participate in the Quality Improvement Program.
As part of our commitment to maintaining a safe and healthy workplace, all successful candidates will be required to undergo respiratory fit testing in compliance with occupational health and safety standards.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- 1 year of experience as a secretarial/administrative coordinator in a hospital or doctor’s office.
