About the Role

This position supports and coordinates the administrative activities of the nursing unit, potentially covering multiple units.

Responsibilities

  • Processes transfers and discharges using the Admit-Discharge-Transfer (ADT) system in the electronic medical record.
  • Answers and appropriately routes internal and external telephone calls.
  • Orders materials and supplies for the unit; collects equipment and medication from the dumb waiter system.
  • Answers call systems from the nurses' station and follows up with patients and/or family as needed.
  • Makes follow-up appointments for patients.
  • Organizes transfers to skilled nursing facilities in conjunction with the Discharge Coordinator, including printing relevant sections of the patient chart.
  • Prepares discharge packets and other documents for patients (including maternal/baby).
  • Maintains the unit’s business equipment, including wireless carts.
  • Arranges for special maintenance or repair of unit equipment.
  • Updates the unit’s whiteboard (this function may be eliminated).
  • Maintains the Minimum Record.
  • Assists unit personnel in using the electronic medical record and other systems; may act as the unit resource for computer-related issues.
  • Acts as a greeter for the unit, welcoming new patients and their families.
  • Coordinates discharge times, contacts family members with discharge information, and facilitates timely discharges.
  • Initiates unit downtime procedures when necessary.
  • Communicates with other units/departments.
  • May support Environmental Services by entering bed status data into the ADT system.
  • May facilitate co-pay collections by communicating with the Admitting office.
  • Assists with other unit duties such as collecting meal trays and transporting STAT specimens to the lab.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Working knowledge of PCs and ability to navigate a Windows environment using a mouse.
  • Basic knowledge of office equipment (fax, copier, scanner).
  • Typing speed of 25 words per minute.
  • Ability to read and comprehend complex instructions, correspondence, and medical record documents in English.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence using email.
  • Working knowledge of computer applications, including Windows 95/97, 2000, or Windows NT.
  • Willingness to work in a Labor Management Partnership environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Medical Terminology Certificate.

Schedule

  • Shift: Night (11:15 PM – 7:45 AM).
  • Workdays: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday.
  • Job Type: Standard, with call-in/on-call availability.
  • Worker Location: Onsite.

Pay

The pay range for this role is $37.29 - $39.22 per hour. Actual base pay will be determined based on labor market data, internal alignment, and a candidate’s relevant work experience, education, certifications, skills, and geographic location.
