About the role
The Boiler Operator supports the Mission and Vision of the facility by maintaining and operating all boilers, chillers, pumps, piping, and associated equipment throughout Henry Ford Providence Hospital in Rochester, MI.
Responsibilities
- Operates, maintains, and repairs building automation system equipment, including absorbers, centrifugal chillers, cooling towers, and air handling units.
- Takes readings on all equipment, powerhouse, and mechanical areas; logs readings daily on the Boiler Report Sheet.
- Prepares boilers for seasonal inspection.
- Repairs and overhauls all steam equipment, valves, and motors.
- Performs preventative maintenance duties according to schedule.
- Operates and maintains high pressure (120 PSI) steam boilers and related equipment.
- Regenerates water softener, refills brine tank with salt packs, pumps and valves, blows down boilers, performs boiler water treatment, and conducts water analysis.
- Operates and maintains Generator and Fire Alarm Systems; records findings.
- Performs maintenance and repairs on building systems, including piping, electrical, and other repairs as necessary.
- Monitors elevators for proper operation; contacts service when needed.
- Promotes a positive work environment through quality service and positive staff attitudes.
- Demonstrates commitment to the facility’s mission by adhering to Standards of Performance and Code of Ethics.
- Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
- Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

Requirements
- High School diploma (required).
- Current City of Detroit High Pressure Boiler Operator License or equivalent at time of hire/transfer (required).
- Demonstrated ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and manufacturers specifications.
- Familiarity with building maintenance techniques.
- Knowledge of safety codes and practices.
- Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
