Union Data Center Lead Technician

As a Lead Cable Technician, you will oversee the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of network cabling infrastructure within data center environments. In this role, you will guide and support a team of technicians, ensuring projects are completed safely, on time, and to the highest quality standards. You will collaborate with stakeholders, interpret technical documentation, and maintain compliance with industry best practices. This position is ideal for individuals with strong technical expertise, excellent communication skills, and a passion for mentoring others while driving operational excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Installation/decommissioning of network and cabling infrastructure in a Data Center environment.
  • Deliver sustainable and repeatable solutions and processes, always with an eye on improvement.
  • Provide structured feedback on project progress to stakeholders.
  • Exhibit quality workmanship on all work and maintain Data Center cleanliness.
  • Follow all production, safety, and quality standards, codes, and industry best practices.
  • Collaborate with various stakeholders to remove project obstacles.
  • Read and comprehend blueprints and building documentation/redline work.
  • Broad understanding of Data Center infrastructure technologies.
  • Lead a crew of 1-5 technicians.
  • Perform job walks and communicate with customers for job requirements.
  • Accept responsibility for the outcome of work performed by yourself and/or employees who directly report to you.
  • Pull all types of low voltage cables.
  • Perform field terminations and labeling.
  • Maintain orderly paperwork and run midsize to large projects and service jobs.
  • Layout MDF and IDF closets, dress all types of cable, and perform all types of terminations, including fiber equipment and cable/fiber terminations.
  • Basic understanding of both copper and fiber cable testing and troubleshooting.
  • Work in Data Centers.
  • Work on analog, DSL, and extend T1 lines.
  • Patch network equipment.
  • Track and submit timesheets for crew reporting.
  • Understand and track metrics/SLAs.
  • Knowledge and understanding of network handover.
  • Track lessons learned as they occur.
  • Coordinate with QA/QC on quality status walks.
  • Knowledge and understanding of project close-out.
  • Identify technicians' strengths and weaknesses.

Requirements

  • Knowledge and use of basic telecom hand tools.
  • Must be capable of leading a crew of 1-5 technicians.
  • Clear understanding of job safety requirements.
  • Ability to read and understand job floor plans.
  • Familiarity with wiring schemes and wiring testing.
  • Capability to perform field terminations and labeling.
  • Skill to layout MDF and IDF closets, dress all types of cable, and perform all types of terminations, including basic understanding of fiber equipment and all types of cable/fiber terminations.
  • Basic understanding of both copper and fiber cable testing and troubleshooting.
  • Capable of working in Data Centers.
  • Ability to work on analog, DSL, and extend T1 lines.
  • Must be currently authorized to work in the United States without the need for visa sponsorship now or in the future.
