Data Center Technician
Location: Barker, NY
Onsite Flexibility: Onsite
Contract Details: Contract Duration: 5 months (with potential for extension)
Pay Rate: $38.00–$39.00 / Hour (USD)
Shift / Schedule: Initial Training (Site Induction) on day shift; 8:00 PM – 8:00 AM; 4×3 day work schedule / 12-hour shifts / non-rotating
Contract-to-Hire: Yes — potential to convert to full-time employee
Work Authorization: Applicants must be authorized to work for ANY employer in the U.S.

Key Responsibilities

  • Aid in daily site inspections of all Mechanical & Engineering systems and technical equipment, including servicing and maintenance.
  • Ensure the site's environmental conditions provide a safe work environment.
  • React to Building Management System alarms, and complete emergency repairs as needed.
  • Work with third-party vendors, ensuring compliance with company-developed processes, procedures, and all applicable laws and regulations.
  • Alert management if subcontractor performance doesn't meet all requirements per the Master Service Agreement.
  • Complete planned preventative maintenance (PM) and reactive maintenance on all equipment.
  • Check Client for running and alarm conditions and respond to HVAC-related client problems.
  • Build walkthroughs, take meter readings from UPS, PDUs, and utilities.
  • Provide fixes to facility and plant faults and defects.
  • Complete assigned work according to established processes and procedures.
  • Follow all safety processes and requirements and ensure all regulatory requirements and quality standards are met.
  • Conduct routine quality checks for comprehensive maintenance records.
  • Complete all required training to ensure successful completion of all job-related responsibilities.
  • Use existing procedures to solve straightforward problems while having a limited opportunity to exercise discretion.
  • Impact through clearly defined duties, methods, and tasks are described in detail.
  • Deliver own output by following defined procedures and processes under close supervision and guidance.
  • Maintain awareness for issues (repair work is not needed) across the following systems: - Chillers and cooling towers - Pumps - Valves - Fire protection systems - Heat exchangers and liquid cooling systems
  • Perform inspections of: - Medium- and low-voltage switchgear - UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) systems - Power Distribution Units (PDUs) - Backup generators and transfer switches - Battery systems and monitoring equipment
  • Monitor building management systems (BMS) and electrical monitoring systems (EMS).
  • Conduct real-time system checks and log equipment performance.
  • Participate in 24/7 on-call rotations and emergency response activities.
  • Support installation, commissioning, and upgrades of electrical systems.

Required Skills

  • Some knowledge of SCADA, BMS/Client systems.
  • Ability to work under pressure in critical environments.
  • Effective communicator; able to escalate issues quickly.
  • Experience in a critical environment (required).
  • Ability to work shifts that may include weekends and holidays.
  • Ability to follow basic work routines and standards in the application of work.
  • Communication skills to exchange straightforward information.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Strong organizational skills with an inquisitive mindset.
  • Basic math skills; ability to calculate simple figures such as percentages, discounts, and markups.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Good customer service skills.

Preferred Skills

  • BMS/Client system experience.
  • Safety skills and experience.
  • HVAC or electrician license is a significant plus (none required).

Education Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required; in lieu of a diploma, a combination of experience and education will be considered.
  • Trade school is a plus.
  • Training in a technical discipline having served an apprenticeship or equivalent preferred.

Required Experience

  • 3 years of experience in a relevant technical or critical environment role.
  • 1–2 years of job-related experience (per technical discipline training requirement).

Work Environment / Physical Requirements

  • Active construction data center environment.
  • Must be able to meet the physical requirements of this role.
  • 24/7 on-call rotations and emergency response activities required.
  • 12-hour shifts on a 4×3 non-rotating schedule (8:00 PM – 8:00 AM).
  • Safety shoes required for in-person interview (2nd round) and on-site work.
  • Pre-employment background check (CBRE Safety Specific) with drug screen required.
