Union City, TN - 42101 - Welder's Helper

Essential Functions

• Metal Preparation: Cutting, grinding, and beveling metal pieces to fit exact project specifications before the welder joins them.
• Post-Weld Cleanup: Grinding down, chipping slag, or brushing finished welds to remove impurities, excess metal, and create a smooth finish.
• Equipment & Supply Management: Setting up rigs, moving heavy equipment, and ensuring welders have a constant supply of welding rods, grinding discs, and gases.
• Safety & Environment: Clearing the workspace of fire hazards, watching for sparks, and acting as a fire watch to keep the environment safe.
• Heavy Lifting: Transporting, loading, and unloading heavy steel beams, pipes, or other materials.

Qualifications/Special Knowledge Skills

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Proficient knowledge of gas installation techniques and industry standards.
• Exhibits ability to think practically and creatively to implement the best safety practices.
• Responds quickly and efficiently to emergency situations while remaining calm in a crisis.

Education/Experience

• A High School Diploma or Equivalent required.
• 1-2 years of welder helper experience.

Physical Requirements

• Regularly required to talk and listen.
• Often required to stand, walk, and use hands/fingers.
• Able and willing to work long hours including day, night, and weekend shifts as needed, and work outside of normal hours.
• Able to walk, lift, reach, stoop, stand, grasp, balance, climb, kneel, crouch, and lift up to 50 pounds frequently.
• Able to climb a minimum of 5 rungs of an extension ladder.
• Able to work in outside environments being subjected to weather changes, noise, vibrations, and job hazards.
