Union Carpenter

About the role

Carpenters are needed in Kalamazoo and Grand Rapids, Michigan. Union membership is required and supported.

Responsibilities

• Works with varied materials including wood, plastic, fiberglass, and drywall.
• Utilizes tools such as chisels, planes, saws, drills, and sanders to erect and repair structures.
• Uses tools like levels, rules, plumb bobs, framing squares, and surveying equipment to ensure structures are level and secure.
• Joins materials with nails, screws, staples, or adhesives.
• Safely operates various saws and other carpentry tools.
• Checks work regularly to ensure compliance with codes and specifications.
• Performs tasks such as building handrails, steps, drilling, and patching, as well as light concrete work.
• Builds stairs, temporary doors, ramps, temporary walls, and erects scaffolding including pipe and safety barriers.
• Makes provisions for moving and handling materials needed for the job on scaffolding.

Requirements

• Minimum two years of construction carpentry experience.
• Union membership required.

Preferred Experience

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Two years of construction carpentry experience.

Travel

Must have reliable transportation and be willing to travel up to 60 miles per day depending on project location relative to where the employee lives.
