About the role
The Uniform Room Attendant and Seamer/Seamstress is responsible for day-to-day uniform room activities, including approved alterations, uniform distribution, record keeping, quality control, garment care, repair of garments, and inventory management for all associate uniforms, guest laundry, and executive laundry. This role ensures job responsibilities are performed satisfactorily according to department standards while adhering to all company, safety, and department policies and procedures. The position fosters teamwork, provides excellent guest service, anticipates guest needs, and builds brand loyalty by living the JW Marriott Core Values.
Responsibilities
- Performs uniform alterations and adjustments, including hemming, resizing, and repairs
- Completes approved repairs such as replacing buttons, zippers, collars, and minor mending
- Handles additional sewing and garment-related tasks as assigned
- Coordinates the sending and receiving of uniforms with the dry-cleaning vendor
- Ensures all uniforms are properly scanned in and out of the tracking system
- Presses and prepares garments to meet appearance standards
- Processes guest laundry requests in accordance with established procedures
- Maintains accurate inventory by tracking distribution and return of uniforms
- Reports uniform quality, condition, and maintenance concerns to the Department Director
- Tags and labels garments as needed for identification and processing
- Maintains accurate records of materials used for alterations and repairs
- Ensures sewing equipment is properly maintained and in good working condition
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED
- Previous experience as a seamer/seamstress, tailor, or in hotel uniform/laundry services
- Sewing proficiency (hand and machine) for uniform repairs and alterations
- Familiarity with or ability to learn the InvoTech Uniform Inventory System
- Ability to perform alterations (hemming, resizing, patching, zipper repair)
- Accurate measuring and fitting of uniforms for employees
- Knowledge of fabrics, uniform standards, and garment construction
- Experience using industrial sewing machines and equipment
- Strong attention to detail to maintain appearance and brand standards
- Organization and inventory management of uniforms and supplies
- Time management to handle high volumes and meet turnaround times
- Customer service skills when assisting team members with fittings and requests
- Ability to maintain cleanliness, order, and presentation of the uniform room
- Must be able to speak and understand basic English for safe job performance and effective communication
Preferred Qualifications
- Bilingual in English and Spanish
Essential Job Functions
- Work is performed in a uniform room and other locations throughout the property
- Must be tolerant to varying conditions of noise level, temperature, illumination, and air quality
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but can increase to loud on the casino floor
- Smoking is permitted in casino areas consistent with Nevada state regulations
- Ability to communicate effectively with guests, team members, and vendors
- Ability to stand and/or walk for extended periods
- Ability to bend, reach, and perform repetitive movements
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull items up to 50 lbs
- Strong hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity
- Ability to operate standard office equipment and sewing machinery
- Basic math skills for counting and tracking inventory
- Ability to read and distinguish letters, numbers, and symbols accurately
- Ability to follow policies, procedures, safety guidelines, and written instructions (including MSDS/chemical labels)
- Ability to safely work with and around cleaning chemicals
