About the role
The UCF IT department within Facilities and Business Operations is seeking to hire a Unified Communications Engineer III (M365).
Responsibilities
- Administer and maintain Microsoft 365 services including Teams, Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, OneDrive, and Microsoft Purview.
- Own assigned service areas end-to-end, ensuring strong performance, availability, and compliance with university standards.
- Implement and manage data governance controls (e.g., DLP, retention, sensitivity labels) aligned with FERPA and state regulations.
- Monitor tenant health and service metrics; proactively identify and address issues.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex M365 issues, identifying root causes and implementing lasting solutions.
- Manage incidents and requests in ServiceNow with clear documentation and timely communication.
- Escalate issues as needed, providing complete context for efficient resolution.
- Serve as a primary contact for M365 services, delivering professional and responsive customer support.
- Communicate technical concepts in clear, non-technical terms, outlining impact and options.
- Collaborate with IT partners (e.g., Security, Infrastructure, Enterprise Voice) to coordinate changes and services.
- Lead or contribute to M365 projects such as migrations, policy implementations, and service enhancements.
- Track progress, communicate updates, and identify risks with proposed solutions.
- Maintain accurate documentation including configurations, runbooks, and procedures.
- Evaluate Microsoft 365 roadmap updates and new features in non-production environments.
- Follow established change management processes, including planning, sign, and rollback readiness.
- Support evaluation and deployment of emerging tools, including Copilot for M365.
- Develop PowerShell scripts and Power Automate workflows to streamline administrative tasks.
- Leverage Microsoft Graph API for automation, reporting, and configuration management.
- Identify and propose opportunities to improve efficiency through automation and process improvements.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to junior engineers.
- Contribute to team knowledge-sharing and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Stay current with Microsoft 365 technologies and industry best practices.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree and 4 years of relevant experience; or High School Diploma (or equivalent) and 8 years of relevant work experience in lieu of degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219(6).
- Advanced experience with Microsoft 365 services, including Teams, Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, and OneDrive, in a complex enterprise environment.
- Strong expertise in Microsoft Purview, including Data Loss Prevention (DLP), retention policies, and sensitivity labeling.
- Experience developing automation using PowerShell, Power Automate, and Microsoft Graph API.
- Experience managing identity and access controls, including Entra ID and Conditional Access policies.
- Demonstrated experience leading or supporting M365 migrations, implementations, or major service improvements.
- Experience evaluating and deploying new Microsoft 365 features, including Copilot for M365.
- Familiarity with IT service management practices and tools such as ServiceNow.
- Experience working in higher education or similarly large, decentralized organizations.
- Knowledge of regulatory and compliance frameworks such as FERPA and state public records laws.
- Proven ability to mentor junior engineers and contribute to team knowledge-sharing initiatives.
