About the role
Amentum is seeking a UXO Safety and Quality Control Specialist for the Las Vegas, NV area. Purpose and Scope: Dedicated UXO SO/QCS with at least eight years EOD and UXO experience including working on Operational and Test Ranges performing operational range clearances and target maintenance. This experience must include quality and safety management of: range clearance operations; UXO and hazard mitigation; range and range road maintenance; target preparation and placement; MPPEH processing; range debris demilitarization and recycling. Candidate must be versed in all aspects of Target Operations to include clearance, survey and target cover, concealment and deceptive techniques. Ensures all contractor Target Operations requirements are met, in accordance with the PWS. Coordinates and supports all customer project requirements, managing customer priorities.
Responsibilities
- Perform all duties and responsibilities required to support the safe performance of MEC-related activities.
- Oversee MEC-related activities during operational range clearance and maintenance and verify completion safely and in accordance with applicable requirements and approved plans.
- Ensures safety and quality aspects of range clearance operations, target maintenance, and test and mission support ensuring the customer’s requirements are met in accordance with Air Force and DOD instructions and policies.
- Develop and, on approval, implement the project’s quality control (QC) plan for MEC-related activities in accordance with applicable requirements.
- Conduct and document QC audits of MEC-related activities for compliance with applicable requirements.
- Identify, document, report, and ensure completion of corrective actions to ensure MEC-related activities are in accordance with applicable requirements.
- Ensure compliance with DoD, U.S. Air Force, and/or DDESB-approved site plans.
- Prepare QC reports.
- Develop and, on approval, implement explosives and health and safety plans and programs in accordance with applicable DoD, federal, State, and local requirements.
- Analyze the potential risks (e.g., operational, explosives safety, general safety) associated with MEC-related activities and develop and implement required mitigating measures.
- Establish and ensure compliance with site-specific explosives safety requirements.
- Enforce personnel limits and explosives safety quantity distance (ESQD) arcs for explosive-related operations.
- Conduct, document, and report the results of safety inspections and ensuring implementation of corrective actions.
- Coaches staff on a daily basis, for training and continuous improvement.
- Ensures employees are informed of and use safe work practices.
- Prepare standard operating procedures for range clearance activities.
- Facilitate the preparation of risk and hazards analyses.
- Conduct daily site safety briefings.
- Analyze operational risks, explosive hazards and safety requirements.
Requirements
Eight years demonstrated management and leadership applicable in field of operations, EOD and MEC-related activities. Graduate of a military EOD School of the United States (Naval School EOD). Experience managing and leading work crews with varied backgrounds and myriad objectives, reach consensus on complex issues in a timely manner, and manage others in performing complex, interrelated tasks in an efficient, effective and timely manner. MEC experience including working on Operational and Test Ranges performing range clearance operations is a plus. Solid knowledge of target operation procedures and guiding USAF and DOD instructions, policies and procedures. Must be able to demonstrate experience working in procedurally, environmental and safety compliant environment. Possess ability to speak, read, and write English. Must be computer literate in common software applications and able to operate general office equipment. Must possess and maintain a valid state issued motor vehicle drivers’ license.
Qualifications
Meet all requirements for UXO Quality Control Specialist (UXOQCS) and UXO Safety Officer (UXOSO) in accordance with DDESB Technical Paper 18. Strong written and oral presentation skills; excellent interpersonal and communication skills; excellent organization skills; proven ability to work both collaboratively and autonomously; strong initiative; ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
