Unemployment Insurance Auditor 1

About the role

The Unemployment Insurance (UI) Auditor conducts reviews and examinations of employers' and workers' records, performing routine audits to ensure compliance with Unemployment Insurance laws. This role requires analytical skills to apply Unemployment Insurance laws within specific guidelines, using Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Generally Accepted Auditing Standards when reviewing employer records.

This position is telework eligible, with occasional travel to employer businesses for audits. Staff are provided with the tools and equipment to succeed in a virtual work environment. Note that the telework policy may change based on business needs.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct reviews to determine employer liability under Minnesota Unemployment Insurance law.
  • Examine employers' and workers' records to resolve liability and worker status issues, ensuring accurate and prompt benefit payments.
  • Perform routine unemployment tax audits to verify proper wage reporting and employer compliance.
  • Communicate effectively with employers, their representatives, and UI Division staff.

Requirements

  • Experience working with financial records, payroll processes, basic accounting, or auditing.
  • One (1) year of customer service experience, including answering inquiries, explaining policies, and managing challenging conversations over the phone.
