Underwriting Team Lead

Responsibilities

• Underwrite property risks across the spectrum of E&S business, providing leadership, direction, and technical guidance while maintaining a balanced portfolio across primary and excess placements.
• Underwrite 100% primary/shared, layered, and excess structures.
• Make timely underwriting decisions, manage multiple opportunities simultaneously, and drive execution across the team.
• Partner with regional leadership and peers to shape strategy, foster a high‑performing culture, and build a nationally recognized Lexington team.
• Maintain and profitably grow the E&S portfolio across desired business segments while supporting team production goals.
• Collaborate with internal colleagues and maintain strong visibility and relationships with wholesale trading partners.
• Review and negotiate manuscript form wordings and coverages.
• Lead, coach, mentor, and develop underwriters within the zone, providing technical expertise, guidance, and support for professional growth.
• Assist with portfolio management, talent development, and execution of regional business objectives.

Requirements

• Minimum of 5 years of commercial E&S underwriting experience.
• Proven ability to underwrite risks across the spectrum of E&S business while providing leadership and maintaining a balanced portfolio across primary and excess placements.
• Established relationships within the territory’s wholesale brokerage community.
• Prior team leadership, coaching, or mentoring experience with demonstrated success developing underwriters and fostering collaboration.
• Strong knowledge of CAT modeling, including OEP/AEP, TvAR, AAL, and Catastrophic Technical Premiums (TCPs).
• Clear understanding of ISO form usage.
• Ability to influence, motivate, and drive results across a team while balancing underwriting discipline and growth objectives.

Pay

Base salary range for Illinois‑based positions is $120,000‑$150,000, plus eligibility for a bonus in accordance with the applicable incentive plan. Actual compensation will depend on skills, experience, and qualifications.
