Underwriting Specialist

About the role

MSIG USA is the US-based subsidiary of MS&AD Insurance Group Holdings, Inc., a leading P&C carrier with a global footprint spanning 40+ countries and regions. This Underwriting Specialist role focuses on the construction business, aiming to produce, underwrite, and service profitable business through strong relationships with brokers.

Responsibilities

• Produces, underwrites, and services both project and master builders risks within delegated authority.
• Underwrites related Inland Marine classes, including contractors equipment, riggers liability, installation projects, and transportation.
• Applies appropriate account selection, coverage, risk management, aggregate management, reinsurance, and pricing techniques to achieve target profitability.
• Maintains underwriting files and systems in accordance with department guidelines.
• Maintains existing accounts and develops new sources of business in line with department risk appetite and guidelines.
• Coordinates activities with other internal business units as appropriate.
• Provides timely and best-in-class professional service to customers.
• Promotes a positive impression of MSIG to producers, insureds, and within the marketplace.

Qualifications

• High school degree is required, with a bachelor’s degree or equivalent business experience preferred.
• CPCU/insurance designations encouraged.
• 5+ years of relevant underwriting experience with demonstrated productivity, profitability, and business acumen.
• Strong knowledge and technical expertise of relevant risks, including exposures, forms, coverages, pricing methods, aggregate management, reinsurance, and account management.
• Demonstrated market presence with the ability to form lasting producer relationships and in-depth knowledge of production sources and market capabilities within the assigned territory and product lines.
• Strong portfolio management, organization, negotiation, and time management skills with an understanding of the company’s business objectives.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively within teams across multiple disciplines and support activities.
