Responsibilities

  • Manage, mentor, and coach underwriting trainees and assistant underwriting staff to ensure consistency in process and develop a talent pipeline for future career development
  • Directly manage assigned underwriting staff, focusing on EDGE and Assistant Underwriters
  • Interview, hire, and train employees; plan, assign, and direct work; appraise performance; reward and discipline employees; address complaints and resolve problems according to company policies, goals, and applicable laws
  • Support production, profitability, and relationships with all agents
  • Collaborate with Underwriting Leadership to establish consistent pathing requirements and standards for staff advancement to higher-level underwriting roles
  • Work with Training and Development to provide and monitor work that supports and masters training concepts

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university, or ten to fifteen years related commercial P&C insurance underwriting and management experience and/or training
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Work experience as a Senior Underwriter or equivalent skill level position required
  • Excess and surplus lines background beneficial
  • CPCU, ASLI, AIC, or completion of other insurance-related classes preferred
