About the role

BHSI has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Underwriter for Commercial Surety. The position will be responsible for regional commercial surety business and is ideally located in our Houston, Atlanta, or Plymouth Meeting offices, though other locations will be considered. This role serves as a market-facing representative, driving the development and growth of the Commercial Surety line of business within the region.

Responsibilities

• Underwrite commercial surety accounts, including pre-qualifying new business and analyzing credit quality
• Make sound underwriting decisions regarding terms, conditions, and pricing
• Develop and build the commercial surety book of business
• Establish and nurture broker and customer relationships
• Review RFPs, contracts, and bond forms for large, sophisticated projects in the non-contract commercial surety space
• Create and execute marketing plans
• Travel within the assigned territory as needed

Requirements

• At least 5 years of underwriting experience within the commercial surety space
• Strong credit assessment skills
• Proven negotiation skills
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Experience managing and collaborating with retail brokers
• BS/BA Degree or equivalent experience

Pay

The base salary range for this position in Houston is $130,000 to $180,000, along with annual bonus eligibility. Total compensation is determined by relevant skills, location, and experience.
