Underwriting Assistant, Surety UW Center
About the role
Sompo has a unique opportunity for an Underwriting Assistant in our Surety business unit. The position will be based out of our Mount Juliet, TN office.
Responsibilities
- Process Surety business through data entry, Underwriter support, understanding rating scenarios, and producing error-free work through strong attention-to-detail.
- Develop superior working relationships with underwriters and act as the first point of contact with timely service inquiries.
- Maintain successful relationships with agencies and clients.
- Display and use knowledge with filed rates, minimum premium, rater and assisting with line cards.
- Manage internal reports: monthly renewal, status reports, data cleanup projects, submission under review & quoted status.
- Provide support to Surety UW Center team (other UAs, account management, bond forms, collections).
Requirements
- Preferred 3-5 years of experience as a Technical Assistant or Underwriting Assistant performing similar responsibilities.
- Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills, with effective written and verbal communication abilities across email, phone, and in-person interactions.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Edge/Chrome, and Nitro Pro or Adobe.
- Prioritize and collaborate effectively with team members.
- Strong attention to detail, with demonstrated planning and organizational skills.
- Eagerness to learn, a positive attitude, and a willingness to take on new opportunities and responsibilities as assigned by Underwriters or Leadership.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Some college or technical training preferred.

Pay
The total compensation opportunity for all regular, full-time employees is a combination of base salary and incentives that gets adjusted upfront based on overall Company performance with final awards based on individual performance.
