Underwriting Assistant - Remote
About the role
The Business Services Group at Crum & Forster is seeking a professional self-starter and resourceful team player to support the underwriter desks. This individual will serve as the backbone of the underwriting team, facilitating efficient workflow to ensure internal and external deadlines are met.
Responsibilities
- Partners with Underwriters to establish support needs for renewals and/or new business policies.
- Prepares documents and participates in pre-renewal meetings.
- Prepares underwriting/pricing exhibits, such as exposures, experience rating, profit and loss analysis, expense models, updated account information, etc.
- Manages account documentation, including proposals, agreement letters, reinsurance contracts, collateral agreements, policy changes, endorsements, cancellations, etc.
- Ensures accurate and timely servicing and billing of accounts.
- Communicates with brokers/agencies, wholesalers, and internal departments, researching and resolving issues, responding to inquiries and questions.
- Prepares quotes for UW by reviewing exposures and experience rating, updating account information, rates and adjusting the price, as requested.
- May complete renewals based on formal guidelines, commonly referred to as "Letter of Authority."
- Provides information for regulatory compliance, such as statutory filings, proof of insurance, certificates.
- Participates in projects/assignments as requested.
Requirements
- Three or more years of insurance experience related to rate, quote, and issuance of P&C Insurance is preferred.
- A High School Diploma is required; a Bachelor’s degree is preferred but not required.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Independent ability to assign class codes, handle bureau criticisms.
- Experience with Professional Liability (E&O) is a plus.
- Continuous improvement mindset.

Qualifications

- Knowledge of state rules a plus.
- Strong ability to market face externally and manage agency communication effectively.
- Competent in all phases of the following areas: Business Unit specific product lines and coverage, knowledge of underwriting support processes/procedures/workflow, and awareness of local Business Unit Strategy.
- Manages relationships with agents & wholesalers, as well as peers and business partners.
- Available for agency visits.

Pay
The annualized base pay for the advertised position, located in the specified area, ranges from a minimum of $36,000.00 to a maximum of $67,800.00. The actual compensation is determined by various factors, including but not limited to the market pay for the jobs at each level, the responsibilities and skills required for each job, and the employee’s contribution (performance) in that role. To be considered within market range, a salary is at or above the minimum of the range. You may also have the opportunity to participate in discretionary equity (stock) based compensation and/or performance-based variable pay programs.
