Underwriter - Seneca Specialty Package NY Wholesale

About the role

This hybrid role is based in Morristown, NJ. The position involves performing risk selection and pricing on new business, renewals, and endorsements, reviewing quotes, making marketing calls to agents and wholesale brokers, managing agency relationships, and meeting profitability, retention, and written premium goals.

Responsibilities

• Underwrite lines of business including primary property, general liability, umbrella, and other lines on occasion.
• Meet profitability, retention, and written premium goals.
• Make independent decisions within underwriting letter of authority and maintain proper file documentation.
• Manage assigned agents efficiently, including regular production visits, quarterly review of assigned brokers' profitability, identification of potential broker conflicts & successes, and focus on service and responsiveness.
• Work jointly with other profit centers within the organization to promote cross-selling and enterprise awareness.
• Aid in developing annual business goals for assigned agents/producers.
• Analyze results and maintain accountability of agency partners within the branch.
• Show an in-depth knowledge of branch's products and services, clearly articulating Seneca's value proposition and underwriting appetite.
• Participate in training and initiatives to develop knowledge base.
• May participate in projects.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree and 4+ years of P&C underwriting experience.
• Strong communication and analytical skills to pursue new business and manage overall relationships.
• Proficient in software needed to succeed.
• Excellent organizational and time management skills.
• Possesses, or is pursuing, underwriting and industry designations applicable to area of specialization.
