Underwriter - Property
About the role
We are looking for a Property Underwriter to join our team. This will be a hybrid role based in Alpharetta, GA.
Responsibilities
- Underwrite profitable new and renewal business to meet Line of Business targets
- Negotiate participation, pricing, and terms and conditions with brokers
- Proactively manage capacity
- Underwrite and evaluate Natural Catastrophe Accumulation, ensuring an understanding of catastrophe modeling and interpretation of scenarios
- Underwrite in line with Line of Business governance framework (e.g., Underwriting Authorities, global Minimum Standards of Underwriting, Underwriting Guidelines, Rules and Principles)
- Ensure contract certainty is achieved on all accounts at time of inception
- Utilize global pricing tools
- Place and bind Facultative Reinsurance prior to policy inception
- Ensure accurate policy documentation is issued to brokers or that brokers have issued documentation where applicable
- Maintain files (electronic or paper) for each risk and transaction handled
- Proactively support completion of policy administration and credit control processes
- Proactively support acquisition of new business and retention of existing business, including client and broker negotiations where necessary
- Liaise with Market Management on market management initiatives
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with key brokers, clients, and other relevant stakeholders (e.g., risk managers)
Requirements
- Minimum 1 to 3 years of proven experience underwriting profitable business; understanding of Line of Business products and portfolio
- Demonstrable, established relationships with brokers at peer group level
- Good understanding of regional/local insurance markets and competitor landscape
- Understanding of legal and regulatory framework
- Experience working in a complex, global matrix organization
- Risk Assessment and Management: Ability to assess risk, inherent exposures, and natural hazards relevant to the Line of Business
- Pricing and Market Management: Ability to analyze current performance against benchmarks, applying knowledge of how the market operates, business needs, and customer needs
- Contract Drafting and Interpretation: Ability to design, develop, and implement consistent, robust wordings
- Policy Management: Robust understanding of the policy administration life cycle, including information collection, policy issuance, premium bookings, credit control, and cancellation
- Analytical Skills: Ability to effectively absorb information from various sources, analyze data in detail, and draw appropriate conclusions
- Communication Skills: Ability to clearly and effectively express ideas and messages via speech or writing
- Influencing Skills: Ability to persuade and motivate others to act, without executive authority
Qualifications
- Progress towards a professional insurance qualification (e.g., CII) preferred
Skills
- The ability to utilize AI tools to support day-to-day tasks, improve efficiency, and contribute to data-driven decision-making is valuable.
Benefits
The annualized base pay range for this role is $70,536 to $106,571. The actual salary for this position may be above and will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role, the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate. The base pay is just one component of the AzC total compensation package. As part of our comprehensive compensation and highly rated benefits programs, employees are also eligible for annual performance-based cash incentive awards.
Pay
The annualized base pay range for this role is $70,536 to $106,571. The actual salary for this position may be above and will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role, the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate. The base pay is just one component of the AzC total compensation package.
