About the role
The Underwriter I/II position at Philadelphia Insurance Companies is responsible for evaluating property and casualty insurance applications, determining the risk involved, and deciding whether to accept or reject the application. This role also involves setting appropriate premiums, maintaining knowledge of the company’s products, services, and market segments, and communicating with colleagues across various departments.
Responsibilities
- Evaluates property & casualty insurance applications to determine the risk involved
- Decides to accept or reject the application; determines appropriate premium
- Aids in determining the acceptability, conditions, and pricing of specific property & casualty insurance risks and associated coverage
- Maintains familiarity with the products, services, priorities, and target markets in the property & casualty line of business or insurance segment
- Maintains familiarity with the loss experience and business conditions of key accounts as well as loss trends and any major legal or economic factors affecting the property & casualty line of business
- Communicates effectively with colleagues in underwriting and all support areas to meet the property & casualty insurance needs of customers
- May accompany senior underwriter or marketing representative on appointments in assigned territory and industry events
- Develops and maintains relationships with agency representatives
Requirements
- College Degree preferred or equivalent experience
- 3 or more years of underwriting experience with a carrier handling Commercial Package business in a production focused underwriting capacity
- Excellent analytical and communication skills
- Ability to be detail oriented in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to travel in assigned geographic territory on agency calls
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree
- 3 to 5 years of commercial lines underwriting experience
- CPCU designation a plus
