About the role
Brooks Insurance Agency, the wholesale brokerage division of Venbrook Group, is seeking an experienced Excess Liability Insurance Underwriter to join our growing team. In this role, you'll evaluate, select, and price complex Excess & Surplus (E&S) casualty risks while helping build and maintain a profitable book of business. What You'll Do
- Underwrite complex excess casualty and E&S liability risks across a variety of industries.
- Analyze submissions, loss history, exposure data, and underlying insurance programs.
- Make binding underwriting decisions on new business, renewals, and endorsements within delegated authority.
- Structure coverage, attachment points, limits, terms, and pricing to achieve profitable growth.
- Partner with wholesale brokers to evaluate opportunities and communicate underwriting decisions.
- Monitor market trends, loss activity, and emerging risks to support portfolio performance.
- Maintain accurate underwriting documentation and regulatory compliance.
What You'll Bring
- 5+ years of Excess Casualty and/or E&S underwriting experience.
- Strong technical knowledge of casualty coverage, pricing, and risk analysis.
- Experience making underwriting decisions within delegated authority.
- Understanding of surplus lines markets and regulatory requirements.
- Excellent analytical, negotiation, and communication skills.
- Ability to evaluate complex risks and balance growth with profitability.
Preferred Qualifications
- CPCU, ARM, AU, or similar professional designations.
- Experience underwriting contracting, construction, product liability, real estate, or institutional risks.
- Knowledge of actuarial pricing concepts and loss trend analysis.
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Risk Management, Finance, or a related field.
- Can be based remotely on the East Coast.
