Responsibilities

  • Underwrite new business and renewal applications, assessing risk to determine appropriate terms, pricing and conditions.
  • Analyze census data, claims history, plan design and other risk characteristics to develop informed underwriting decisions.
  • Develop competitive quotes and communicate terms, rationale and conditions to sales teams, brokers and partners.
  • Manage an assigned book of business, consistently meeting turnaround times and service-level standards.
  • Document underwriting rationale thoroughly to ensure compliance and audit readiness.
  • Support modernization efforts, reporting enhancements and process improvement initiatives.
  • Partner cross-functionally with actuarial, operations and sales teams to support business objectives.
  • Apply sound judgment and risk assessment within established underwriting authority levels.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of underwriting experience in stop loss, level-funded, or employee benefits insurance.
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to translate data into sound underwriting decisions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey rationale to brokers, clients, and internal stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to independently manage a book of business, prioritizing competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • A self-starter who takes ownership of outcomes and follows through with minimal oversight.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to use hands or fingers, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

Travel Requirements

Up to 10% travel as business needs require.
