About the role

General Dynamics Mission Systems creates products and services that help service members, intelligence analysts and first responders keep the nation safe. The work is often classified and applies advanced technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, Blockchain, AR/VR, Cloud Native and Quantum Physics to solve missions in cyber, RF, undersea, interstellar and beyond. The Senior Technical Writing Specialist is responsible for creating, planning, writing and editing complex operational, instructional, interactive electronic technical manuals (IETMs), maintenance or test procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Document engineering processes and specifications by editing software developer and engineering staff's notes and procedures
  • Apply formatting to support the writing and publication of hardware and software test procedures
  • Work with junior writers providing feedback and critiquing work to help develop leadership skills, documentation skills and expertise with production tools and projects

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related specialized area or field, or equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience, plus a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree
  • Department of Defense Secret security clearance is required at time of hire
  • Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information
  • U.S. citizenship is required due to the nature of work performed within facilities
  • This is an onsite position requiring work to be done on site at the McLeansville, NC location with little to no opportunities for remote work
  • This position may require occasional travel

Required skills and experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in a Technical Discipline (engineering, science, etc.)
  • A minor in Technical Writing, English, Language Arts, Foreign Languages, etc. strongly preferred or a strong interest in these areas
  • Strong and demonstrated technical writing skills
  • Strong team leadership and organizational skills
  • Expert level proficiency with Microsoft Office Tools
  • Working knowledge of (or willingness to learn) Geographic Information Systems (GIS) strongly preferred
  • Working knowledge of (or willingness to learn) databases
  • Working knowledge of (or willingness to learn) Adobe Creative Cloud suite of applications, especially Photoshop, Illustrator, and Acrobat
  • Knowledge of (or willingness to learn) cabled undersea systems
  • Basic working skills and knowledge of (or willingness to learn) various high level, markup, scripting, etc. languages (Java, Python, XML, SQL, etc.)
  • Ability to work within an established team structure

Pay

USD $81,352.00/Yr. - USD $88,025.00/Yr. This estimate represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors (geographic location, etc.). Actual pay may vary.
