Underground Utility Foreperson - Draper, UT

About the role

This is a skilled position requiring 5-10 years of underground utility experience, with at least three years as a crew leader. The role involves overseeing a crew of up to five members and operating multiple pieces of heavy equipment.

Responsibilities

• Organize daily work on the assigned project and direct crew employees.
• Be responsible for materials delivered to the project.
• Keep time cards for employees and prepare daily reports.
• Care for equipment and vehicles.
• Perform heavy lifting as required.
• Adhere to, educate, and enforce company policy, including safety protocols.
• Monitor job costs.
• Manage a crew of up to five members installing underground utilities while ensuring compliance with company policy regarding equipment and safety.
• Perform other essential duties as assigned by a supervisor.

Requirements

• 5-10 years of underground utility experience, with at least three years as a crew leader.
• Valid driver’s license; CDL is a plus.
• Organizational skills and ability to operate multiple pieces of heavy equipment.
• Ability to read and understand plans and specifications.
• Understanding of grade, slope, elevations, and operation of various grade equipment (e.g., lasers).

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Ability to read, comprehend, and write instructions, correspondence, and memos.
• Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group settings.
• Proficiency in basic arithmetic (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
• Ability to compute rates, ratios, percentages, and interpret bar graphs.
• Ability to calculate elevation, slope, and material quantities from construction stakes.
• Ability to apply common sense to carry out detailed written or oral instructions.
• Basic computer skills, including typing and database software knowledge.
• Trenching/shoring competent person certification and OSHA 30-hour certification are a plus.

Physical Demands

• Regularly required to sit, talk, or hear.
• Frequently required to climb, use hands to finger, handle, or feel.
• Frequently required to stand, walk, crawl, kneel, bend, and reach with hands and arms above shoulders.
• Occasionally lift and/or move 10 to 50 lbs.
• Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.

Work Environment

• Occasionally exposed to wet/humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, outside weather, extreme cold, and heat.
• Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
