About the role
Stantec’s Mining, Minerals and Metals Practice is seeking an Underground Mining Engineer to join an established team of industry leaders in Phoenix, Salt Lake City, Denver, or Reno. Remote work may be considered.
Responsibilities
- Participate in the development of underground mining studies ranging in level of detail.
- Provide expert mine planning support using your operations experience and Deswik Mine Planning software.
- Support due diligence and technical audits.
- Act as peer reviewer of drawings, specifications, mine planning, and technical reports.
- Support the development of capital and operating cost estimates.
- Lead project teams performing trade-off and optimization studies including but not limited to mine access, material handling, ventilation, and mining methods.
- Domestic and International travel with the possibility of extended stays may be required.
Requirements
- A strong understanding of various underground hard rock mining methods and mine systems.
- Caving experience is a plus.
- Experience with implementation of new technologies.
- Proficiency in Deswik Software Suite (CAD, Sched, IS, SO).
- Proficiency in compiling and presenting data (PowerBI, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Strong communication and critical thinking skills.
- Experience in working on a team of multiple engineering disciplines.

Qualifications
- 4+ years of relevant industry experience.
- A degree in Mining Engineering or equivalent from a recognized post-secondary institution.
- Operations experience in underground hard rock mining is required.
- Experience in building new projects from the ground up in Deswik mine planning applications is required.
- A Professional Engineer or SME Registered Member is a plus.
