Essential Functions
- Operates the equipment used in excavating, backfilling, lifting, and other construction tasks
- Assists with installation, operation, maintenance and repair of underground electrical power lines and systems
- Assists with service calls concerning power outages and electrical problems
- Clears work area and maintains safe jobsite conditions
- Excavates to assist in the installation of structures or cable as required by contract specification
- Communicates work to be performed to public and private property owners
- Participates in company training of all regional safety guidelines and performs work by the regional safety policies
- Assembles material on the ground and installs conduit and cable in ditches
- Operates various tools for the work (manual digging devices, wrenches, hammers, saws, jack hammer and power tamp etc.)
- Works around hazardous equipment
- Works near energized parts or equipment
- Works near excessive noise from machines, jackhammers, saws and other equipment with proper hearing protection
- Works around varying heights above ground, in manholes, and /or in confined spaces with proper PPE
- Writes and receives switching orders for underground primary cables
- Bends, kneels, and squats frequently while installing and making repairs relating to underground distribution
Minimum Requirements
- Safe entry and exit from excavations
- Termination of underground primary and secondary cables
- Termination of pad-mounted transformers, secondary pedestals, and meter boxes
- Following directions, working safely & productively
- Necessary endurance for eight (8) or ten (10) hour days
- Ability to work long hours and overtime during holidays, emergencies, weekends, etc.
- Subject to call out work
- Valid Driver’s license. Current CDL preferred or willingness to receive within 90 days of employment
- Pass background check and motor vehicle records check
- Pass DOT physical to obtain DOT medical card
- Maintain attention and concentration for extended periods of time
- Wear necessary PPE as required by company policy
- Withstand exposure to all kinds of weather while completing work assignments, i.e., rain, heat, sun, cold
- Traverse various terrains
- Communicate with others
- Maintain attention during dangerous tasks
- Lift, move and maneuver up to 50 pounds on an frequent basis, and up to 10 pounds on a frequent basis
- Have sufficient eyesight to judge distances and coordination to get and use the appropriate equipment and tools
- Transportation to and from the show up location
- Willingness to travel out of state for emergency storm work
- Pass pre-employment drug screen
