About the Role
The Undercarriage Shop Technician 1 performs basic to moderate diagnosis and repairs on heavy construction equipment undercarriage in a shop environment. The incumbent is expected to model alignment with the company's mission and core business values, collaborate with key resources, and participate in ongoing self-development.
Responsibilities
- Model, promote, reinforce, and reward the consistent use of HOLT’s Values Based Leadership (VBL) tools, models, and processes.
- Perform basic repairs on equipment undercarriage and undercarriage components.
- Operate undercarriage build-up and rebuild machines, including all tooling and machines used in undercarriage rebuilding.
- Assist in disassembling, cleaning, inspections, repairs, and assembling undercarriage components.
- Assist in evaluating, measuring, and monitoring undercarriage conditions.
- Work as a team member to provide basic technical and mechanical services that satisfy customer needs and achieve departmental goals.
- Work overtime as required by workload and customer needs.
- Assist in preparing service reports and necessary paperwork.
- Maintain all company equipment, tools, and work areas in clean and working order.
- Perform tasks with direct supervision.
- Provide assistance to other Undercarriage Technicians for larger jobs.
- Adhere to contamination control and HAZMAT rules and regulations.
- Work safely at all times and comply with all applicable safety policies, company procedures, and standards.
- Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Technical schooling preferred.
- 1+ years of heavy construction equipment repair experience preferred.
- Must own basic tools to perform the job.
- Must complete V.B.L. and DISC classes prior to promoting to Tech 2.
Skills
- Knowledge of equipment and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
- Familiarity with current computer software, related hardware, and machine electronic systems (CAT ET and CAT SIS 2.0).
- Excellent work habits, accuracy, attention to detail, and quality of work.
- Verbal and written communication skills.
- Basic torch and welding ability (a plus but not required).
- Time management skills.
- Ability to develop technical skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to follow manufacturer and company installation and service guidelines.
- Ability to operate hand tools, power tools, pneumatic tools, and equipment.

Physical Requirements
- Significant time standing, walking, kneeling, crouching, stooping, climbing, and reaching.
- Constant movement and use of hands, requiring good manual dexterity.
- Communication with customers, service managers, and co-workers.
- Reaction to visual, auditory, and other signals including alarms and instructions; visual inspection of work.
- Ability to move objects and use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support without fatigue.
- Ability to maneuver safely and work underneath equipment.
- Frequent lifting and moving of materials and equipment up to 80 lb.
- Ascending/descending ladders and equipment using both hands and feet.
Work Environment
- Requires wearing common protective or safety equipment.
- Regularly works indoors around moving mechanical parts; may be exposed to weather extremes (inclement weather, heat, cold, humidity).
- Regularly works outdoors around moving mechanical parts; noise level may be loud at times.
- Exposure to small quantities of chemicals, dust, steam, high-pressure water, and high-speed rotating equipment.
- Required to perform work in cramped spaces, awkward positions, and/or high places.
- Exposure to minor burns, cuts, bites, or stings.
Additional Information
- No supervisory responsibilities.
- Up to 10% travel may be required.
