Main Duties
- Control and monitor access to assigned posts in accordance with site procedures.
- Verify credentials and manage personnel and vehicle entry.
- ID and report unauthorized access attempts or access concerns.
- Conduct vehicle and foot patrols across assigned areas.
- Observe and report abnormal conditions, safety hazards, or security concerns.
- Maintain situational awareness throughout patrol routes and assigned posts.
- Document incidents, observations, and required activities in reports and logs.
- Communicate clearly via radio, phone, written reports, and verbal briefings.
- Provide escort services when required without impacting primary duties.
- Support emergency procedures during drills, alarms, evacuations, and incidents.
- Follow direction from Incident Command or authorized security leadership.
- Attend roll call prior to each shift for briefings and assignment updates.
- Participate in equipment checks, readiness verification, and safety briefings.
- Comply with all safety programs, OSHA standards, and DOE requirements.
- Report accidents, injuries, unsafe conditions, and vehicle incidents immediately.
Minimum Requirements
- A United States citizen.
- At least 18 years of age.
- A high school diploma or equivalent.
- A valid driver’s license.
- A valid Illinois driver’s license within 90 days of assignment, if hired with an out-of-state license.
- REAL ID-compliant identification for site access.
- The ability to obtain and maintain required DOE access authorization.
- The ability to obtain and maintain Illinois security officer registration, including PERC requirements.
- The ability to pass pre-assignment background screening.
- The ability to pass ten-panel drug screening prior to assignment.
- The ability to participate in random drug testing during employment.
- The ability to complete required medical and psychological qualification requirements, where applicable.
- A current CPR/AED certification or the ability to obtain and maintain certification.
- Strong oral and written English communication skills.
- The ability to remain calm, professional, and controlled under stressful conditions.
- The ability to learn and retain site-specific procedures, post orders, emergency procedures, and DOE-related security requirements.
Training
- Complete required Illinois security training.
- Complete DOE Basic Security Officer Training.
- Complete Argonne site-specific training.
- Participate in on-the-job training.
- Participate in safety training.
- Participate in emergency procedure training.
- Participate in annual refresher training.
