UN Women International Consultant - Climate, Peace and Security and Data Communication, home-based (multiple positions)

Through the Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific (ROAP) in Bangkok, UN Women supports governments and women’s movements with programs focused on governance, peace and security, ending violence against women, humanitarian action, disaster risk reduction, women’s economic empowerment, and HIV/AIDS.

About the role

The International Consultant on Climate, Peace and Security (CPS) and Data Communication will support the Governance, Peace and Security (GPS) Unit at UN Women’s Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific. The role involves analyzing local data, developing interactive communications, and creating policy-facing knowledge products to advance the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) agenda, with a focus on disability inclusion, youth engagement, and intersectional approaches.

Responsibilities

• Analyze local data sources in the Asia-Pacific region and synthesize findings into structured evidence sets for interactive communications and policy-facing knowledge products.
• Support the assessment of CPS-WPS communications needs, including identifying data sources, thematic priorities, and cultural/political sensitivities.
• Assist in preparing web-based interactive products and data visualizations that translate CPS-WPS evidence into accessible narratives.
• Apply data intelligence frameworks and mapping tools to develop knowledge products in collaboration with technical partners and UN Women colleagues.
• Support virtual design workshops with women peacebuilders, civil society organizations, and UN Women stakeholders, and prepare synthesis notes and briefs.
• Apply do-no-harm and anonymization protocols to ensure responsible handling of community-level data and testimonials.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of CPS-WPS developments in the Asia-Pacific region and integrate insights into knowledge products and advocacy materials.
• Collaborate with UN Women country-desk colleagues to validate content for cultural and political accuracy.
• Coordinate with subcontracted technical partners on data layer development and platform builds, including documentation and progress reports.
• Prepare briefing notes, background papers, data summaries, and other materials for policy dialogues and regional convenings.
• Assist in monitoring and documenting the uptake of CPS-WPS knowledge products to contribute to institutional learning.
• Perform other duties as required.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in social sciences, conflict studies, gender studies, international affairs, or a related field; a first-level university degree with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted.
• At least 2 years of progressively responsible experience in designing, planning, monitoring, or evaluating programs related to Women, Peace and Security, Climate, Peace and Security, or Data Management.
• Experience creating web-based interactive products and data visualizations.
• Experience in programming, advocacy, or work with governments and civil society.
• Previous experience with UN Women or other UN agencies is an asset.
• Experience in the Asia-Pacific region is preferred.

Qualifications

• Excellent command of written English is required.
• Knowledge of another UN official language is an asset.

Schedule

This is a home-based consultancy. Official travel may be required, managed in accordance with UN Women’s travel policy. Assignments will be determined by UN Women on a retainer basis, with no guaranteed working days.
