About the role

UN Women’s Strategic Partnership Division (SPD) mobilizes resources and builds alliances that advance gender equality through partnerships with governments, the private sector, and individuals. The Strategic Plan (2026–2029) emphasizes the private sector as a key partner, including through the implementation of the Women’s Empowerment Principles (WEPs) and the Global Supply Chain Coalition (GSCC). The Communication Consultant will report to the Head of the WEPs and GSCC Secretariats, collaborating closely with coordinators to strengthen communication strategies, amplify key messages, and increase visibility of both initiatives through creative, impactful social media content.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the implementation of the GSCC communications strategy, ensuring clear, consistent, and compelling messaging across platforms.
  • Develop and implement a GSCC communication and outreach strategy, including:
    • Strengthening the GSCC visual identity in line with the WEPs brand book.
    • Updating and executing the communications plan to enhance GSCC visibility and engagement.
    • Supporting internal private sector engagement processes with related communications tasks.
    • Monitoring communication trends and adjusting strategies for relevance and impact.
    • Ensuring coherence of messages on WEPs channels used for GSCC communication.
    • Monitoring and analyzing analytics data on WEPs/GSCC social media posts, newsletters, and other communications materials to assess content effectiveness and identify trends.
    • Contributing to regular progress reports on GSCC communication progress, impact, and results.
  • Produce and manage content for newsletters, social media, websites, and other channels, including:
    • Drafting, editing, and publishing engaging content highlighting GSCC activities, milestones, and results.
    • Developing and managing a content calendar to ensure timely dissemination across platforms.
    • Leading regular updates of the GSCC webpage content and structure.
    • Collaborating with GSCC members and partners to gather inputs, visuals, and stories for publication.
  • Ensure consistent branding and visual identity across all communications materials, including:
    • Applying and maintaining GSCC visual identity and branding standards.
    • Leading team coordination to finalize high-quality visuals, publications, and templates in collaboration with designers.
    • Reviewing and ensuring all communication products adhere to the WEPs brand book.
  • Support the planning and communications for GSCC events and campaigns, including:
    • Developing and implementing communication plans and promotional materials.
    • Coordinating messaging and visual assets for cohesive event branding and visibility.
    • Capturing and disseminating event outcomes, highlights, and follow-up communications.
  • Document and showcase member achievements, case studies, and impact stories, including:
    • Supporting the curation of GSCC member success stories, testimonials, and case studies.
    • Producing multimedia content (e.g., articles, videos, infographics) that illustrates the GSCC’s impact.
    • Supporting knowledge-sharing efforts by packaging stories for newsletters, reports, and social media.

Qualifications

  • Education: Master’s degree (or equivalent) in communications, public relations, journalism, or a relevant field is required. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree.
  • Experience: At least 2 years of professional experience in public relations, communications, advocacy, or a related field is required. Experience with MS Office 365, SharePoint, databases, and web-based management systems is required. Proficiency in Canva and basic graphic design is required. Knowledge of SEO, web analytics, and Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) is an asset. Experience in media relations, including press materials, media outreach, and journalist engagement is an asset. Experience working on women’s rights, human rights, or international development is an asset. Experience working with the UN system is an asset.
  • Languages: Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another UN official language is an asset.
