About the Role

Per diem, variable shift ultrasound technologist performing highly skilled technical work in diagnostic ultrasound using complex equipment for specialized and/or technically difficult examinations.

Responsibilities

• Scan patients and maintain all safety precautions while administering treatments in a manner appropriate to the age-specific needs of the patient.
• Acquire pertinent clinical information from patient's chart and/or computer and maintain safety standards particular to the age-specific needs of the patient.
• Develop films when Medical Surgical Technologist is not available.
• Record complete procedure in computer (HIS System) and on the daily log with technician's initials.
• Bring patients in and out of examination room; transport patients within the x-ray department as needed.
• Perform portable exams and assist radiologist in O.R. cases.
• Provide preliminary impression to physicians after completion of an exam when report is not in computer.
• Explain correct prep for exams (e.g., N.P.O., hydrating for pelvic) ensuring alignment with patient’s life cycle and safety requirements.
• Assist radiologist in the performance of special procedures; set necessary equipment and supplies.
• Report equipment malfunction to supervisor.
• Clean examination room after each patient and adhere to infection control policies and procedures, including Universal Precautions.
• Assist in training ultrasound students, residents, and fellows.
• Review CQI Quarterly Report in section meetings and contribute ideas for continuous quality improvement.
• Understand principles of growth and development across all age groups; assess and interpret patient data to identify requirements.
• Maintain CPR certification and follow unit-specific policies and procedures as detailed on the competency checklist.
• Utilize job and unit-specific equipment as required.
• Demonstrate behaviors of service excellence and CARE values (Compassion, Accountability, Respect, and Expertise).
• Perform all other related job duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Graduation from an accredited program in Ultrasound Technology.
• ARDMS registered:
  • Employees hired before 2/1/2017 must obtain ARDMS certification by 12/31/2017.
  • Employees hired after 2/1/2017 who have completed training must obtain certification within six months of hire.
• American Heart Association BLS certification with at least 6 months validity (additional life support certifications may be required at the unit level).
• Generally requires 0 to 3 years of related experience.

• Frequent visual acuity for extended computer use.

Environmental Conditions

• Fast-paced environment with occasional high pressure or emergent and stressful situations.
• Frequent interaction with a diverse population including team members, providers, patients, insurance companies, and the public.
• Subject to inside environmental conditions with occasional outdoor exposures.
• Exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, medicinal preparations, needle sticks, airborne infections, medical gases, X-ray, chemical exposures, and other hospital/medical office hazards.
• Must wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when exposed to infectious/clinical hospital environments.
