Summary
The Ultrasound Intern is competent to perform all diagnostic procedures for the diagnosis of specific diseases or conditions under direct and indirect supervision of an Ultrasound Technologist.
Major Job Functions
- Competent to perform all procedures within the Ultrasound Section of the Radiology Department
- Competent in technical operations of all equipment
- Assess the patients, review orders/chart as appropriate to confirm reason of exam
- Promptly complete and accurately record exam begin and end time in the Radiology Information System (RIS)
- Ensure pertinent patient symptoms and clinical history are documented and a signed consent form is present if needed
- Prepare patients for procedure, answer any questions and effectively communicate with the supervising radiologist for special instructions and/or questions regarding exam protocol
- Responsible for the prompt completion and accurate recording of exam begin and end time in the Radiology Information System (RIS) to ensure timely access to study by the radiologist
- Monitor timeliness of exams and quality of care based on established department goals, striving for continuous quality improvement
- Perform QA of exams (correct order, accurate/complete image annotation, correct laterality) prior to sending to radiologist for interpretation
- Actively participate in department’s Performance Improvement Projects
- Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Graduate of an accredited Sonography certificate or diploma program required
- ARRT (Sonography) or ARDMS Registry eligible required
- Interns must be registered by either ARDMS or ARRT (Sonography) within 12 months of internship required
- Current AHA BLS required
Education and Formal Training
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Graduate of an accredited Sonography certificate or diploma program required

Work Experience
- 1 year experience preferred

- Ability to stand for long periods of time
- Ability to bend and lift up to 100 pounds, carry objects up to 50 pounds
Position may involve
- Skin, eye, or mucous membrane contact with blood or other potentially infectious material
