About the role
The Sonographer, specializing in either Cardiac, Vascular, or General areas, performs complex diagnostic ultrasound procedures in various units including emergency and trauma, surgical, critical care, inpatient, and outpatient settings. The position requires direct interaction with a multi-disciplinary team in stressful emergency situations and the ability to optimize imaging exams on critical patients.
Responsibilities
- Perform diagnostic ultrasound procedures according to protocols and care standards.
- Operate a variety of sophisticated ultrasonic imaging units and read and report systems.
- Keep current on technological advances within the field of ultrasound.
- Acquire necessary skills to perform new ultrasonic examinations and modalities.
- Review images for identification, technique, and completeness according to governing bodies.
- Provide training to new department staff members and sonography students.
- Participate in educational sessions and contribute technical and professional knowledge to students, allied health professionals, and physicians.
- Perform invasive techniques as required, such as using approved contrast agents or agitated saline for cardiac ultrasound, paracentesis, thoracentesis, and biopsy exams for general ultrasound, and line placement and thrombin injection exams for vascular ultrasound.
- Participate in accreditation and re-accreditation applications for respective modalities.
- Perform other duties as requested by the department supervisor, including checking code blue carts, eye wash stations, blanket warmers, refrigerators, cleaning and maintaining equipment and the lab.
Requirements
- Active registry with either Cardiovascular Credentialing International (RCS, RVS) or American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (RDMS, RVT, RDCS).
- AHA BLS certification within 60 days of employment.
Qualifications
- Minimum one-year clinical experience in the respective departmental required.
- Working-level knowledge of the English language, including reading, writing, and speaking English.
