Ultrasound Technologist II, nights

Nights, Full Time: Monday - Friday 11:30pm - 7:30am with full benefits. $20,000 sign-on bonus and new minimum rate as of August 2 of $44.00 per hour; increases with experience.

About the Role

Under general supervision and following established procedures, the incumbent operates ultrasound imaging equipment to acquire images and communicates sonographer impressions to interpreting physicians. The role requires problem-solving skills and active participation in departmental initiatives. The incumbent must effectively communicate with students, peers, patients, and physicians to ensure safety and quality of imaging. Exercises independent judgment to modify scan techniques for optimal image quality. Must be solution-oriented, exemplify professional, respectful, and inclusive behavior with all staff, patients, visitors, and students, and actively participate in departmental initiatives. The incumbent participates in call, holiday, and shift rotations as required by the department. May be required to rotate among the main campus and community locations, with appropriate training.

Responsibilities

• Patient and exam verification: Ensures two points of patient identification (date of birth & full name) to verify the correct patient. Reviews the order for exam and indications, and the patient’s chart for pertinent clinical history. Prepares and cleans equipment and room for each patient. Maintains stock levels to ensure rooms are ready for patient care.
• Patient Care & Collaboration: Uses clear communication when explaining the exam to the patient, considering physical and emotional needs. Ensures understanding and maintains ethical standards (patient confidentiality, professional conduct, etc.). Works collaboratively with the leadership team to ensure smooth and efficient patient flow and optimal utilization of ultrasound scanners. Delivers patient care under the scope of license/training.
• Department & On-Call Coverage: Assumes responsibilities for on-call and holiday coverage. Remains flexible in shift coverage and overtime situations as necessary.
• Clinical Performance: Performs all duties pertaining to clinical ultrasound exams. Oversees and instructs sonographers, professional staff, and students within the department, including ultrasound equipment operation, protocols, and other technical aspects. Performs other duties as assigned or required.
• Research Performance: Participates in research programs, quality assurance, and quality improvement projects. Performs all duties pertaining to research ultrasound exams and support tasks as outlined by the department.

Requirements

• Trade/Technical/Vocational Diploma in Diagnostic Medical Sonography required, or other Certificate/Diploma in Diagnostic Imaging; Associate's Degree in Diagnostic Imaging preferred.
• Certified Sonographer - American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) required.
• Sonography [R.T.(S)(ARRT)] - American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) required.
• New Hampshire Radiologic Technologist Technician license required.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
• Ultrasound scanning experience with multiple patient populations (2-3 years preferred).
• Leadership experience (0-1 year preferred).
• Comprehensive understanding of computer operations relating to Imaging, Electronic Health Records, Reporting Systems, PACS, and all Hospital Information Systems that integrate with the department.
• Analytical abilities to effectively utilize advanced knowledge of imaging processes, techniques, procedures, and anatomy.
• Flexibility and willingness to adapt to operational needs while representing the department positively.
• Excellent attention to detail, written communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to use independent judgment and initiative under pressure.
• Ability to maintain effective working relations and communication with colleagues and patients.
• Ability to work independently, guide, teach, and motivate others.
